Happy Social Work Month!

Written by Grecia Cardenas.

In honor of social work month we want to give a shoutout to our wonderful social workers! Social workers are fundamental to communities. They are compassionate and kind-hearted individuals who provide services in different institutions through a variety of services and roles. Social workers participate in professional roles that promote social justice or partake in mental health services by Licensed Clinical Social Workers. Social workers provide a vast majority of mental health care services in the U.S. More than 60 percent of mental health treatment is provided by a social worker. Social workers are unique in that we consider the person in the environment. We like to include community resources to encourage an approach that considers different systems impacting an individual’s stressors and life experience. Some of these systems include negative group environments, anxiety, depression, etc. We have six social workers at RVA Counseling: Michelle Burandt and Tanya McKeithen is a licensed clinical social worker, Kevin Salvas, Grecia Cardenas, Eli Mick, and Nelly De Luca are supervisees. Supervisees are approved by the board to provide clinical services under supervision. Each of them provide counseling through a multicultural approach, while valuing the needs and the cultural backgrounds of their clients.
